Kristoffer Edland is one bad ass frequency muddler! From his home base high up in Colorado, Edland has been dropping his liquid, pulsating glitch-hop under the name kLL sMTH since 2009, for such labels as Simplify Recordings, Muti Music, and Prime Dub. About a year of work went into his latest EP, Telescopic Future, and you can easily detect the effort of all those late nights and live shows that honed these tracks into the lazer-crunk and dubstep-influenced dance floor missiles they are today.

Each track has a natural transitional feel over time. Consider percolating texture of "Origami Peanut" that drifts away on gated, wordless female vocals, or the laid-band string-led feel of "Katzenjammer" that hits the glitch-hop womp gland hard when the bass drops, but ultimately strikes the perfect balance between chill and thug. The flute, shaker, and strings that lend a world music vibe to "Transcendent Delusion" early on opens up into a glitchy noir R&B pasture.

"Telescopic Future" takes traces of the dribbling percussive effect of "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball" by Aphex Twin, channeled into more of a celestial downtempo vibe. Its saucy trumpet, marimba, and flute give it new-age hippy core that offsets the intricately warped processing Edland spins as a sonic spider web around it, all of which resolves to Willy Wonka wobblyland in the end.

The EP is a clear statement from an exciting, young producer, whose work ranks among the leaders on equal footing. As he says, "My sole mission in life is to keep your ears listening, your brain thinking, your hearts radiating, and most of all, your booty shakin!'" And when you hear this EP, you'll know that's no hyperbole. While you're catching a cab home or heading back to camp for the night, Edland is still out there somewhere, always hustling that low frequency dope.
